Love Southsea showcases Portsmouth independents at America’s Cup World Series
Portsmouth street market organiser Love Southsea have partnered with the organisers behind the world’s most prestigious sailing extravaganza, the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series, which returns Portsmouth’s shores from 21st July 2016.
Love Southsea will be bringing their signature eclectic mix of local independent traders to the seafront sailing event, offering a diverse and exciting shopping experience for event-goers, and selling their own range of Portsmouth- and Southsea-inspired artwork and clothing.
Local signmaker Missing Chopper will be showcasing and selling the vintage circus-style signage she creates for homes and businesses — anything from hearts and anchors to custom lettering.
Other traders in the Love Southsea marquee who’ll offer the chance to spruce up your interiors include Julia of Pankhurst Gallery, with her maritime and nautical paintings, and Simon of Funky Beach Art, with his bright and vibrant seaside-inspired pieces.
There’ll also be opportunities to refresh your own style as well as the décor in your home, with meticulously-crafted jewellery from Southsea-based designer Charlotte Cornelius, Sherwood Forest and Regatta clothing from The Country Clothing Store, and a broad selection of colorful reworked retro fashion items from Juliette’s Thread.
Take something tasty home with you, too, like homemade chilli sauce inspired by the history of Old Portsmouth, freshly-baked sourdough from BREAD Addiction of Elm Grove, natural nut and seed butters and sweets from Nature’s Pantry, and the experience of a tutored home wine tasting with Pieroth Wines.
Treat yourself to a nautical bracelet from the Break Time Nautical stall or grab one as a gift, speak to Tonic Music Festival about the important work they do in Portsmouth and beyond in support of those facing mental health problems, peruse a fine range of artwork and posters by local artists from Southsea Gallery’s pitch, and find a whole host of other unique local traders in the beautiful vintage Love Southsea Market marquee.
Lulu Whitmore, Director of Love Southsea, expressed how impressed she was with the sense of local pride the events team has shown during the partnership, working to get so many Portsmouth traders at the historic international event.
“I’m also excited to release a new piece of artwork especially for the event, designed by local artist and illustrator Jasmine Drew,” Lulu said.
Jeeves Williams, Art & Technology Director for Love Southsea, added: “We’re also going to town on the décor of our tent, so the market in itself will be a sight not to be missed — look out for the huge vintage marquee!”
The market will be sited in the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series Fanzone, spanning across Castle Field, the West Battery Gardens around Southsea Bandstand, and parts of Southsea Common around Southsea Skatepark.
This prestigious sailing event, taking place on Southsea seafront from 21st through 24th July 2016, sees the world’s fastest foiling boats racing just metres away from the Southsea shoreline, with the world’s best sailors fighting it out in short sharp races.
Above the racing action, there’ll be three thrilling aerobatic displays as part of a three-day programme of public entertainment. The Blades Display Team will fly on Saturday 23rd July, with four high-performance planes flown by former RAF fast-jet pilots, demonstrating a routine comprised of over 30 manoeuvres and plenty of close crosses and heart-stopping dives.
The Red Arrows will bring their distinctive squadron of nine red Hawk jets on Friday 22nd July, while Sunday 24th July sees the return of the Red Bull Matadors, twisting at speeds of up to 250mph in a series of loops, dives, and spectacular smoke displays.
